I’ve walked alongside past this building thousands of times, I live on that side of the road. I dismiss it as a standard example of built-to-a-price 90s commercial building, nothing special.
Dentist, solicitors, employment agency, next to the tube.
It was only tonight, when a chance shaft of perfect Golden Hour light fell on it, that I looked properly at the shape of it. It has been designed, like all proper achitecture, to refer to the existing buildings around it. It’s a 100-years-later reflection / echo of the Wards Corner store building on the opposite corner. This means when it was built – I will now look up the history – there could not have been an intention to destroy the Wards store.
